Description

Graptopetalum 'Purple Delight' is an enchanting succulent known for its captivating rosettes of plump, pastel purple leaves that exhibit a powdery, opalescent sheen. This compact plant typically reaches a height and width of 15 - 20 cm, making it an excellent choice for container gardening, rockeries, or as ground cover in garden beds. Its striking coloration intensifies with increased sunlight exposure, adding a vibrant touch to any outdoor space. During late spring to early summer (Kambarang to Birak), 'Purple Delight' produces delicate, star-shaped pink flowers that enhance its visual appeal.

Thriving in Perth's Mediterranean climate, 'Purple Delight' prefers full sun to partial shade positions. Plant it in well-draining, gritty soil to prevent root rot, and ensure containers have adequate drainage holes. Water sparingly, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings, as overwatering can be detrimental. During the cooler months (Makuru and Djilba), reduce watering frequency to mimic its natural dormancy period. Fertilise lightly with a diluted, balanced fertiliser during the active growing seasons of spring and autumn (Djilba and Djeran) to promote healthy growth and flowering. Minimal pruning is required; however, removing spent flowers and any leggy growth will maintain its compact form. With proper care, Graptopetalum 'Purple Delight' will be a resilient and charming addition to your garden.
