Description
Ficus benjamina 'Starlight' is a stunning variegated cultivar of the popular Weeping Fig, known for its striking cream and green foliage. This plant adds a beautiful visual contrast to any space, making it a favourite for both indoor and outdoor settings. In the ground, it can reach up to 30 M tall and 25 M wide, while in pots, it remains a manageable size at 1.5 - 2.5 M, making it versatile for patios or indoor décor. It thrives in bright, indirect sunlight but can tolerate full sun if acclimatised.
Plant 'Starlight' in free-draining soil and water sparingly, allowing the topsoil to dry out between waterings to prevent root rot. Feed with a balanced fertiliser during the growing season to encourage vibrant foliage and healthy growth. This variety requires minimal pruning but benefits from regular dusting or cleaning of its leaves to keep its colours vivid. It's well-suited to Perth's climate and performs beautifully with basic care.
Ficus plants are known for their strong, invasive root systems. Care should be taken when planting 'Starlight' in the ground to avoid placing it near reticulation systems or infrastructure. When grown in pots, monitor to ensure roots do not grow through the drainage holes and into the ground, which could complicate removal or cause structural damage.
