Description
Cordyline australis 'Peko' is an evergreen shrub native to New Zealand, renowned for its striking, arching green leaves adorned with a central pink stripe and pink-tinged undersides. This vibrant foliage adds a tropical flair to gardens, making 'Peko' an excellent choice for Perth landscapes. The plant typically reaches a height and width of 1 to 2 metres, forming a compact, bushy habit that suits both garden beds and large pots. Its architectural form and colourful leaves provide year-round interest.
Thriving in full sun to part shade, 'Peko' prefers well-drained soil and benefits from protection against strong, dry winds. Once established, it is drought-tolerant, requiring minimal watering; however, during periods of extreme heat, additional watering is beneficial. While 'Peko' is generally hardy, it may need protection from frost in cooler areas. Occasionally, mature plants produce fragrant white flowers during Birak (Early Summer), adding to their ornamental appeal. Regular removal of dead leaves helps maintain a tidy appearance.
