Description
Citrus x paradisi (maxima x sinensis), known as the Grapefruit, boasts the "Ruby Blush" cultivar – a tree revered for its pale yellow-skinned fruits with alluring pink-red flesh. Not only are they a visual treat, but their taste also evolves from a tartness when initially ripened to a delightful sweetness the longer they remain on the tree. Gardeners appreciate its cool area tolerance, making it a versatile choice for varied locales.
Optimal when placed in sunny spots, the "Ruby Blush" grapefruit thrives both in pots and directly in the ground, though sandy soils will benefit from a dose of soil conditioner. Essential to its health is consistent watering, especially during Kambarang to Djeran (spring to autumn). A balanced citrus fertiliser during Djilba (late winter to spring) keeps it thriving. When harvesting, a word of caution: the fruit contains phytochemicals which can adversely interact with certain medications. Always ensure compatibility before consumption.
