The "Cousin It" cultivar of the Prostrate Swampy Oak (Casuarina glauca) is a unique, ground-covering plant, prized for its cascading green needle-like foliage that provides intriguing texture in gardens. This dense growth not only serves as an eye-catching ornamental feature but also makes an excellent weed suppressor, making gardens appear lush and well-maintained. Given its dense form, it can serve as an outstanding choice for borders, banks, or even cascading over walls and pots.
"Cousin It" thrives best in full sun to partial shade and prefers well-draining soils. If planted in sandy or poor-quality soil, it's beneficial to enrich with a soil conditioner to support its growth. This hardy plant requires moderate watering, more frequent in warmer seasons like Birak and Bunuru (summer). For best results, provide a feed with slow-release native fertiliser during Makuru (winter) and light pruning, if necessary, to shape and encourage denser growth.
