Description

The "Mild Thai/Ahaheim" cultivar, a variant of the Chilli (Capsicum sp.), is known for its elongated chillies that transition from green to red as they mature. These chillies are accompanied by subtle white flowers that bloom in Birak (early summer), adding an elegant touch to gardens. This cultivar not only serves as an aesthetic addition but also offers a culinary experience, producing fruits with a heat level of approximately 2,500 SHU, providing a mild kick without overwhelming the palate.

Ideal for garden beds, pots, or vege/herb gardens, this chilli variety thrives in sunny positions with well-draining soil. For those planting directly in the ground, especially in sandy terrains, enriching the soil with a quality soil conditioner is advised. Come Djilba (early spring), treat the plant with a balanced fertiliser to encourage healthy growth and prolific fruiting. Harvesting can usually commence 70-80 days after planting, giving gardeners access to flavourful, mildly spicy chillies perfect for various dishes.

Toxicity Chilli plants contain Capsaicin, the higher the Scoville Heat Unit (SHU) score, the more capsaicin the plant contains. Capsaicin is toxic to most animals if ingested. Humans can tolerate capsaicin, however it can be toxic at high enough levels, so caution must be taken when ingesting chillis. Capsaicin is also harmful to sensitive areas of the skin in humans and animals. Special care should be taken to avoid the eyes, nasal passage and groin in particular.
