Description
Eremophila glabra 'Kalbarri Carpet' is a hardy, low-growing groundcover native to Western Australia. This evergreen plant features dense, soft grey foliage that forms a lush carpet, reaching a height of 10–20 cm and spreading 1–2 metres wide. During early to late spring (Djilba to Kambarang), it produces vibrant yellow flowers tinged with orange, attracting nectar-feeding birds and adding a splash of colour to gardens. 'Kalbarri Carpet' thrives in full sun and is well-suited to Perth's climate, making it an excellent choice for mass planting, embankments, and rockeries.
For optimal growth, plant 'Kalbarri Carpet' in sandy or loamy, well-draining soil. While it is drought-hardy once established, providing additional water during heatwaves will enhance its performance. This plant is low-maintenance and can tolerate coastal conditions, making it ideal for various landscape applications. Pruning is generally unnecessary, but light trimming after the main flowering period can promote a denser habit. Avoid overwatering and ensure good drainage to prevent root rot. 'Kalbarri Carpet' is a resilient and attractive addition to Perth gardens, offering year-round appeal with its foliage and seasonal blooms.
