Crassula tetragona - Miniature Pine Tree

Crassula tetragona, commonly known as the Miniature Pine Tree, is an evergreen succulent native to South Africa. Its upright, shrubby form and needle-like green leaves give it a pine tree appearance, making it a popular choice for bonsai enthusiasts and succulent collectors. In Perth, it thrives in full sun to partial shade and is well-suited for pots, garden beds, or as a feature plant in rockeries. During late spring to early summer (Kambarang to Birak), it produces dense clusters of small, star-shaped creamy-white flowers at the tips of its branches, adding seasonal interest.

For optimal growth, plant Crassula tetragona in sandy, well-draining soil enriched with coarse sand or grit to ensure proper aeration. Water sparingly, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings to prevent root rot. During the active growing seasons of spring and summer (Djilba to Bunuru), a diluted, low-nitrogen fertiliser can be applied monthly to support healthy development. This hardy plant is well-suited to Perth's climate and can be grown both indoors and outdoors, making it a versatile addition to any garden or home.
