Crassula ovata - Variegated Jade Plant

Crassula ovata 'Variegata', commonly known as Variegated Jade Plant, is a striking succulent featuring fleshy, spoon-shaped leaves adorned with creamy-white and pale green stripes. When exposed to bright light, the foliage may develop pink or red tinges, enhancing its ornamental appeal. This slow-growing, evergreen shrub can reach 1–2?M in height and 60?cm–1.2?M in width, developing a thick, woody trunk over time. In Perth, it thrives in full sun to partial shade and is well-suited for pots, garden beds, or as a bonsai specimen. During winter (Makuru), mature plants may produce clusters of small, star-shaped white or pale pink flowers, adding seasonal interest.

For optimal growth, plant the Variegated Jade in sandy, well-draining soil enriched with coarse sand or grit to ensure proper aeration. Water sparingly, allowing the soil to dry out completely between waterings to prevent root rot. During the active growing seasons of spring and summer (Djilba to Bunuru), a diluted, low-nitrogen fertiliser can be applied monthly to support healthy development. This hardy plant is well-suited to Perth's climate and can be grown both indoors and outdoors, making it a versatile addition to any garden or home.
