Description
Crassula ovata 'Gollum', commonly known as Gollum Jade, is a distinctive succulent featuring tubular, glossy green leaves with red-tinted, suction cup-like tips. Its unique foliage and slow-growing, shrubby form make it an excellent choice for bonsai, pots, or feature plants in rockeries and succulent gardens. In Perth, it thrives in full sun to partial shade, with its red leaf tips intensifying under bright light. During late spring to early summer (Kambarang to Birak), mature plants may produce small, star-shaped white or pale pink flowers, adding seasonal interest.
Gollum Jade prefers sandy, well-draining soil and requires minimal watering, only when the soil is completely dry. Overwatering can lead to root rot, so it's essential to ensure proper drainage. Feeding with a diluted succulent fertiliser during spring and summer (Djilba to Bunuru) can promote healthy growth. This hardy plant is well-suited to Perth's climate and can be grown both indoors and outdoors, making it a versatile addition to any garden or home.
