Description
The Bush Flame Pea (Chorizema varium) is revered for its striking orange and pink pea-like flowers that elegantly drape from the shrub. During Makuru to Djilba (winter to early spring), this small shrub bursts into a vibrant display, making it a captivating focal point for any garden. Furthermore, its stunning blooms are a magnet for local wildlife, perfect for those wishing to attract nature's splendour to their outdoor spaces.
Ideal for both in-ground and potted environments, this plant thrives in well-draining soils. For gardens with sandy soils, a soil conditioner can significantly enhance its vigour. While the Bush Flame Pea loves the sun, it appreciates a bit of afternoon shade during the height of Bunuru (summer). To ensure a profusion of flowers each year, feed with a native plant fertiliser come Djilba (early spring). If the shrub needs shaping or maintenance, it's best to prune after the flowering season concludes.
