Description
Brassica oleracea var. gemmifera, commonly known as Brussel Sprouts, is a hearty vegetable that grows well in full sun or partial shade. It prefers rich, well-drained soil and can be planted in the ground, pots, or vegetable/herb gardens. Regular watering ensures healthy growth, while a well-mulched soil can assist with moisture retention.
Harvesting of Brussel Sprouts is best done when the buds are firm, green, and about the size of a large marble, typically in Makuru (winter) to Djilba (late winter to early spring). Simply twist them off the stem or use a sharp knife to cut. Store the sprouts in the refrigerator in an unsealed bag for up to a week. This nutritious and versatile vegetable offers a satisfying gardening experience with rewarding culinary possibilities.
