Description
The Hairpin Banksia, Banksia spinulosa, stands out with its captivating range of flowers that transition from yellow and orange to rust-red and bronze, blooming from Makuru to Kambarang (winter to spring). As a Western Australian native, this plant varies in size, ranging from a medium to a large shrub, making it both adaptable and a striking feature in gardens. Its impressive floral displays attract a myriad of native wildlife, and its adaptability ensures it's a favourite for those desiring both beauty and resilience.
When planting the Hairpin Banksia in the ground, it's beneficial to bolster poor, sandy soils with a quality soil conditioner to support its growth. During its first Bunuru (summer), deeper watering will be appreciated, but it becomes notably drought-hardy as it establishes. To ensure it thrives, a dash of native plant fertiliser during Djilba (early spring) is recommended.
