Description
Hooker's Banksia, Banksia hookeriana, is a striking Western Australian native known for its unique acorn-like flowers which sport a fuzzy orange base transitioning to light white-orange at the top. These captivating blooms stand out from Makuru to Kambarang (winter to spring), and the plant itself manifests as a large, mounding shrub. Its lush growth and vibrant flowers make it an excellent focal point in gardens, or as a backdrop for lower-growing plants.
When planting Hooker's Banksia, it thrives best in well-draining soils, and if your garden has poor, sandy soil, it's wise to enrich it with a good soil conditioner. In its initial Bunuru (summer), deep watering will be crucial, but once established, it shows off its drought-resilient nature. To keep it in top form, an application of native plant fertiliser during Djilba (early spring) ensures a flourishing display of its distinct flowers.
