Description
The Midyim Berry (Austromyrtus dulcis), also known as the Midgen Berry, is a delightful, low-growing shrub native to Eastern Australia. It’s particularly well-suited to Perth’s climate, thriving in both full sun and part shade. This attractive, evergreen shrub features small, glossy leaves with a subtle coppery tinge on new growth, adding year-round visual interest to garden beds and pots alike. From Djilba (Early Spring) to Djeran (Autumn), the Midyim Berry produces delicate white flowers with striking, feathery stamens.
This plant’s real highlight is its small, speckled, edible berries that ripen in Bunuru (Late Summer) to Djeran (Autumn). The berries have a sweet, mildly tangy flavour and are often enjoyed fresh or in jams. It prefers well-drained soil and moderate watering, though it can tolerate light drought conditions once established. The Midyim Berry is an excellent choice for native and edible gardens, offering beauty and a tasty harvest.
