Description

The Bird's Nest Fern, or Asplenium nidus, captivates with its glossy, wavy-edged fronds which form a rosette, resembling a bird's nest. This architectural form paired with vibrant green foliage can infuse a touch of the tropics into any space, making it an ideal centrepiece for gardens and indoor environments.

Suitable for pots, inside the home, or directly in the ground, this fern is versatile in placement. In sandy soils, it's advisable to mix in organic compost for optimal growth. The fern prefers dappled shade, shielding it from the intense midday sun. Maintaining consistently moist soil is key, though adjustments can be made based on seasonality: less frequent watering in cooler months, with a ramp-up during warmer periods. Come spring, a dose of liquid fern fertiliser can be introduced to bolster its lushness. Dead or yellowing fronds can be removed to maintain its pristine appearance, but extensive pruning isn't necessary.
