Description

Red Pokers, or Hakea bucculenta, is a large shrub native to Western Australia that adds vibrant orange-red colour to gardens with its unique flower spikes. The flowers are particularly striking from Makuru to Kambarang (winter to late spring), offering a cheerful contrast in the cooler months. This plant is ideal as a focal point or to create a dramatic, textured backdrop in a garden setting.

For the best results, plant Red Pokers in well-drained soil and in a spot that receives full sun. Though it's a relatively hardy plant, poor, sandy soils can be improved with a soil conditioner for better water retention. No specific fertilisation or pruning needs, but you can opt for a low-phosphorus native fertiliser if desired.
