Description

The "Captain Cook" cultivar, a medium-sized shrub from the Bottlebrush family, botanically known as a Melaleuca viminalis (Syn. Callistemon) hybrid, proudly flaunts bright red brushes during Djilba and Kambarang (spring and early summer). This Australian native pays homage to its heritage, named in honour of Captain Cook. Admired for its resilience, "Captain Cook" is notably hardy, demanding minimal supplemental water once fully rooted, except during severe Bunuru (summer) heatwaves.

Ideal for both pots and direct in-ground planting, gardeners are advised to improve sandy soils with a premium soil conditioner for peak performance. A sun-drenched spot complements "Captain Cook" best, and while it's establishing, regular watering is recommended. To foster its vibrant flowering, treat it with a balanced native plant fertiliser during Djilba (spring). For upkeep and to bolster its growth, a gentle prune post-flowering in Kambarang (late spring) is optimal.
