Description
The Medicinal Aloe, known botanically as Aloe vera, boasts thick, fleshy green leaves that are as attractive as they are beneficial. This succulent is not just a garden showpiece; its gel-filled leaves have been used for centuries for their soothing properties, particularly for skin ailments. The occasional tall yellow flower spike further adds to its visual appeal.
Whether nestled in pots or as a low-growing addition in the ground, the Medicinal Aloe thrives in full sun to partial shade. While it's fairly forgiving in terms of soil, enriching sandy or less fertile soils with organic matter can optimise its growth. Water requirements are minimal, with a little more needed in warmer months and sparingly in cooler ones. For optimal health and growth, a spring application of a balanced, slow-release fertiliser, particularly one designed for succulents, is recommended.
