The only upright growing cultivar of the Dissectum Group of Japanese maples. A. palmatum ‘Dissectum Seiryu’ is an attractive small tree with ‘laceleaf’ foliage that turns yellowish-gold to crimson in autumn. Well suited for protected courtyards and small gardens.
The light green new leaves contrast well against the darker, mature foliage. Autumn colours are yellowish-gold with some crimson colouring developing, depending on exposure.
Upright spreading, multi-branched crown. Fast when young, producing strong growth.
If pruning is required, it should be done in summer after leaves have fully developed, as it may 'bleed' sap if pruned in late winter or early spring.
