Description
Crassula ovata 'Hummel's Sunset,' commonly known as the Dwarf Jade Plant, is a striking succulent native to South Africa and well-suited to Perth’s dry, sunny conditions. This evergreen cultivar features fleshy, oval-shaped leaves with distinctive yellow and red edges that intensify in colour during Late Summer (Bunuru) and Autumn (Djeran), giving it a beautiful "sunset" appearance. Reaching about 1 metre in height and width, it is a compact and hardy plant, ideal for pots, garden beds, and even bonsai enthusiasts due to its small size and tree-like structure.
'Hummel's Sunset' thrives in full sun and requires minimal water, making it drought-tolerant and perfect for water-wise gardening. It grows best in well-drained, sandy or cactus soil that prevents root rot. In cooler weather, the plant may produce clusters of small, star-shaped white or pink flowers, which add a delicate touch to its robust appearance. This low-maintenance, long-lived plant is an excellent choice for adding colour and structure to Perth gardens with very little effort.
