Description
Alocasia x portora, commonly known as the Portadora Elephant Ear or Night-Scented Lily, is a large hybrid Alocasia resulting from a cross between Alocasia portei and Alocasia odora. This hybrid is also known by multiple names, including 'Portora', 'Portodora', and 'Portadora'. With origins in Southeast Asia and the Philippines, this stunning plant produces large, lush leaves that can reach impressive heights, adding a tropical feel to shaded garden spaces or large indoor areas. It performs best in part shade or bright, indirect light, making it well-suited for Perth's mild, warm climate.
This Alocasia reaches 1.8 to 2.5 metres in height and spreads 1.2 to 1.8 metres, creating a bold focal point in any landscape or interior. As a deciduous plant, it enters dormancy during Winter (Makuru), with its foliage dying back and then re-emerging in the warmer seasons. 'Portadora' prefers well-draining soil and requires moderate watering to keep the soil moist but not waterlogged. This perennial brings a lush, architectural appeal to any garden or indoor environment.
